I received an e-mail from a list serve I am on entitled “Our Greatest Challenge: Breeding a Productive Chicken!” and I have thought about this e-mail all week now. I believe our ideas of “production” have been terribly skewed by industrial agriculture.
We are currently struggling in the milk department. With only one cow in milk and two calves to feed, we are constantly running short. That’s a huge change from a few months ago when I was literally throwing milk on the ground.
We brought two cows to the processor this past Monday, one full-sized cow and a calf for veal. I helped load them, but Wally dropped them off (I had school). I hate taking cows to the processor. I worry terribly about how
