Birthday present to myself

This is an early (well, not-so-early) Birthday present to myself.  It’s my new cheese-making, vegetable-processing work surface.  I’ve wanted a piece of furniture like this for a long, long time.  I frequent Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. stores a lot and I found this one on Sunday.  It was unload just as I got there so I think it was destined to end up in my kitchen.  It’s a beautiful, well-made piece of furniture and was dirt cheap.  Yes, it takes over a lot of floor area in the kitchen, but it’s so darned functional it doesn’t matter.  The lack of usable counter space in this kitchen has been an ongoing source of frustration.  Now I have work surface galore!  Not to mention all the extra storage room.  In addition to the drawer and cabinet that you can see, there’s another drawer on the side facing the stove and another one on the back side with additional cabinet drawers down below.  Now I can roll out pastry dough, pizza dough, etc.  I have lots of room to make all sorts of things all within easy reach of the refrigerator, stove and sink.  Yes!  I’m even more inspired to cook now.

I think I might have mentioned that they cut hours, again, at MM.  I am not due in until 9:30.  That means I have extra time to get my milking done and get into the garden for a while before it gets too hot.  Not to mention I have two loads of clothes to get out on the line.  Best get my butt in gear.

Until later …
