Thank goodness!!!! By the end of the day yesterday, I was ready to fall over from exhaustion. I could see that the girl I work with was feeling the same way although she wouldn’t admit it; she’s a bit of a tough girl. The past few days have been hard: a lot of prep needed to be done. I am so glad I am not working this weekend because there’s a baseball tournament in town and I’m sure the restaurant is going to be really, really busy. It often feels like the prep work is never, ever going to end.
I put up the goat kids last night so I have nine goats to milk this morning and I’m trying to get myself geared up to get them done. I am so tired and my hands and arms are aching. I’m going to call the woman that is supposed to come out to ride with me this morning to see if she’s really up for it. It is so hot and oppressive I can barely breath and by 9:00 it’s going to be close to 90 degrees.
While I’m disappointed that things didn’t work out with Merlin, in the grand scheme of things, it’s just as well. I really don’t have time to ride two horses, we don’t need to add another animal on to the pasture or another animal to feed over the winter. Plus, Merlin can be is a pain the butt. We’d have to run hot wire across the top of the fence to keep him from leaning over it … just one more chore that we really don’t need to be doing at a time when we have so much to do.
While I don’t like having lost my two day weekend, having Tuesday and Thursday off next week may not be such a bad thing. I can spend the mornings getting fall crops in the garden and then, if I’m brave enough, ride Sudi and then get some house cleaning done. It looks like it’s going to be a bit cooler next week and I’m looking forward to that.
Oh the rabbits suffer in this heat! I feel so bad for them. When I go out to milk, I mist them to help cool them off. I mist myself to cool off before going into the milk parlor.
Wally and I had corn for supper last night. The first time we’ve had it this summer. It was delicious! We decided to have more for supper tonight.
Mica update: he’s doing great and he’s training up well. The two puppies that are in the mountains are doing really well too. See the post about Joon coming to the rescue. It makes me think of how many times Gel has saved my butt. I wish it had worked out so that we could keep Mica, but it just wasn’t in the cards.
Until later …
