I’ve been researching on the Internet information on planting a colorful vegetable garden. I’ve planted three or four gardens since I’ve been in North Carolina and so far, I haven’t been happy with how the garden turned out. Last summer was a complete failure due to the drought. I want to do better this year. I keep what is called a no-till garden which means I put tons and tons of mulch and compost in the garden bed instead of tilling up the dirt. I don’t like to till because it kills the worms, which are extremely beneficial to gardens.
I wrote a few days ago about how I got up early and cleaned like a fiend and how good it felt. Well, digging in the dirt and planting plants that will eventually provide vegetables for my table, is extremely soothing. As is cooking good food. I love to cook. Last night I grilled some chicken that I had marinated in olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. I also baked a potato and steamed some asparagus. I love asparagus! Last year, I was so busy doing something stupid (I’m sure) that I didn’t eat much asparagus. Tonight I had a rotisari chicken, cous cous and more asparagus. I ate close to a pound of asparagus last night and again tonight.
I wrote a few days ago that I was suffering from a UTI. It was still bothering me yesterday. I drank cranberry juice throughout the day, but it didn’t seem to be helping. The asparagus did. Interesting how I’m craving foods (and things) that are healing.
Lately I’ve been listening to music more than I have in a long time. I have XM Radio in my car, but usually I listen to a book on tape rather than the radio. Over the past three days, however, I’ve been cranking the radio. On Saturday I bought an iPod off e-Bay. I’m sure I’ll enjoy putting all my favorite songs on the iPod and listening to them as I work outside. I love music!
I dragged out my road bike on Saturday. I haven’t thought of riding that bike for years. I considered selling it, but it has some emotional value to me. I’m glad I didn’t sell it. Unfortunately, the tires are going to need to be replaced so I’ll need to bring it in to have that done and have it tuned up. In addition to the iPod, I bought a pair of bike shorts off e-Bay. I love e-Bay!
Funny it seems as though I’m reverting back to an earlier “me.” I used to love to listen to music and go dancing. Right now, my stereo isn’t even hooked up so I can listen to my huge collection of CDs. My CD case is covered in dust. The road bike, I used to race bikes. I also used to speed skate. Now, all these things are coming back to me. This is all very healthy.
