Mud and puddles and soon ice

It’s been a trying week weather-wise.  It has rained and rained and rained and rained.  Yesterday was the worst.  It simply poured all day long.  Not fun when you have to work outside taking care of animals.  We minimized chores yesterday by stocking up on livestock food Wednesday night.  It rained so hard most of the day I didn’t even uncover the rabbits, just watered them.  They’ll be hungry this morning.  Finally, they can be uncovered this morning and stay uncovered for a while.  I think we’ve received enough rain for a while now thank you.  Next year, we’ll source clear tarps to put over their tractors so at least light will come in.

The cow and milking shed are ankle-deep in mud and water.  Getting Cocoa clean and keeping the milk clean has been difficult.  We’ve been going through a lot of wash clothes and towels.  The dogs are all mud-brown.  Our floors are covered in muddy footprints.  Numerous cats have been inside 24/7 for a couple of days now.  That will change today.  Everyone goes outside this morning.

We need a back hoe to clean out the cow shed.  It just is not going to get done for a few days.  It’s too damned wet.  The cows have dry places to lie outside.  They’ll just have to tough it out for a few days.  We need to dig some trenches to redirect the rain before the next heavy rain event.  It’s a good thing we didn’t put Gwen through this.  I don’t think she would have made it.  Things always happen the way they should.

School continues to go well.  I’m getting a lot out of the classes I am taking.  It’s A LOT of work juggling five classes, but I’m keeping up okay.  Unfortunately, this journal is going to suffer some.

Well, it’s light enough to see and my chore load is going to be doubled this morning so off I go.  Poor Reese (Gel’s son) has been up in his run a good bit lately so he’s going to be wired for sound this morning.  Lovely, a flying muddy puppy.

Until later …
