Bucks …

Not so sure I’m terribly keen on keeping a buck.  He smells!  It isn’t a real horrible smell, just musky and I tend to like musky scents.  He’s also totally obnoxious.  He’s tried to butt me a few times.  I tried to set my ElectroNet down around my agility field.  I stacked all my equipment in the middle and took the ramps off the dog walk; thought everything was safe there.  Not if you have a dairy buck in residence.  First he pulled the poles off my weave poles, then he grabbed hold of one of my jumps and was trying to drag that around.  Guess I’ll need to re-set my fence so he won’t have access to my equipment.

Worked Cian this morning.  He’s turning into a very thoughtful, responsive worker.  Still won’t lie down, but I am getting a standing stop and he doesn’t move until I give him a flank command.  He doesn’t know his flanks yet, but I use my pressure to move him.  I’ll gradually lengthen his outruns and see if the stop holds.

The results for the Red Creek trial are now posted.  Kessie came in 5th with a score of 48.  Not so good, but at least she placed.  There were about 15 dogs in Novice/Novice.  The scores for Open Ranch were lower on Sunday so it seems the sheep were even worst than they were on Saturday.  The dog that won didn’t place on Sunday.  Interesting.

Apparently Kessie is improving in fly ball and if she continues to improve, I won’t continue to work her on stock.  I truly don’t think fly ball and stock work are compatible.
