Rain! Finally! Lots of Rain!

We got five to six inches of rain over the past week and it was very welcome.  Now the clean-up begins. I am glad to see that it is going to be dry for the next week or so which will give things time to dry out. All of the animals survived the deluge and most of the goat does came into heat and most are hopefully bred. This is later than I wanted to get them bred, but it is what it is and really, kidding in March is better than February. If we had a good shelter for them, it would be different, but we are shelter-challenged when it comes to the goats.

We’ve got four new litters of Silver Fox rabbits in the nest box and I bred two (hopefully three) first time does yesterday. That will be it until late winter, early spring. I took the hides out of the pickling solution on Sunday.  I do not think they came out so well, likely because they were from rabbits that were too young.  They are still drying so we will see how they end up.

School is progressing fine.  I thought I had an A average in all of my classes, but I do not in math.  It is a high B.  If it were judged on my grades alone, I would, but unfortunately the group lab submissions have not received as high a grade as my individuals have. I do not care to work in groups, especially when many of the group members are not as interested in good grades as I am.  I finished one business course last weekend so now I just have three to work on.

Work is good too.  A full-time job came up at CVCC which I applied for, but have heard nothing on it.

I spent time in the garden yesterday pulling weeds and getting the soil ready to sow some late fall seeds.  As soon as the seeds are sown (which will hopefully happen tomorrow) I will cover them with row cover and hope for the best. I planted some late cowpeas, but I do not think they are going to amount to much. I need to stop at a farm supply store and get some winter cover crop seeds to get sown. The sun came out yesterday and it was nice to see.

Tomorrow I have an appointment to get my hair cut.  I have not had my hair cut by a professional hair stylist in maybe seven years.  It’s time.  It looks like shit and it is a pain in the butt keeping up with. You look at it and it knots and it takes forever to wash and dry. Time for a new look.  Time for a new me.

Procrastinating on going out to do chores. While I do not want to not milk the goats, it will be nice to have a two month break from it. Hopefully I can keep them going until the end of December.  I know two of them will not make it and it is those does who go to the top of the cull list if they do the same thing next year. Four are still milking strong.

One of the courses I am taking this semester is Entrepreneurship.  Our first assignment was to begin work on a personal vision. As I was working on it, I realized just how unsuccessful as a business I have been and I feel sure that is because of my ethics, morals and standards as well as a complete lack of available funds.  If I were willing to haul my rabbits to the processor to have them processed, if I was able to drive to Charlotte every weekend, if I were better at clever marketing (this is not the exact term I want to use, but it will do here), I would be doing better.  Then again, if I was not working with such niche products.  For now, however, it is what it is.

I caught a cold last week (or was it the week before?) and it went into my chest so I’ve been coughing a lot and it is exhausting.  Plus I have an issue with a tooth (or my jaw) which is slowly responding to oil pulling (as it did before).  If I had kept up with daily oil pulling it probably would not have flared up again.  Sure, I could go to the dentist, but I really do not want to.  I do not trust dentists.  I have not been to a dentist in maybe 25 years and if I never go to a dentist again I will be happy.

I guess that’s it for now.

Until later …
