My view from the milk parlor is on empathy. As I get older, I find myself getting more and more empathetic. It’s good in some instances, however, in my current job, it’s one big problem. As a journalist, you’re not supposed to allow your own opinions or feelings to make their way into your stories. That’s hard – especially for a living, breathing, feeling human being.
I don’t know if it’s always been this way, but it seems there’s meanness and ugliness oozing out of the cracks at a very rapid pace. I think in part that’s due to social media and maybe it’s always been there, it’s just being viewed more because of social media. Empathy is definitely lacking.
One fine day I’ll be in a job where I can allow my passion and feelings to show themselves. Until then, I’ll just do it with my animals, the wonderful products that they produce and soon, my graduate education.
Until later …
