We have sourdough!

As I write this, my bread machine is kneading away a loaf of whole wheat sourdough.  Whoo Hoo!  A few days ago I made a granola/wheat bread using the dough cycle of the machine and then baking it in the oven.  It worked like a charm.  Instead of using bread pans, however, I free-shaped the loaves and baked them on parchment paper on top of a pizza stone.  The bread is wonderful, but I’m looking forward to the sourdough bread.  The chickens may get the rest of the wheat/granola bread.

Speaking of chickens, I already have two eggs in the dog house I set up for them to lay in.  The chickens are out there doing industrious chicken-stuff, singing away.  I love the noises chickens make.

I spent the morning with Wally again.  He called this morning and told me he was going to Tractor Supply and asked if I wanted to go.  I had to get pine shavings (I use pine shavings instead of cat litter) so I went along.

On the way we stopped at a farm supply store to see when they were going to be taking orders for chicks: the middle of January.  Then we went to Tractor Supply and spent about an hour in there.  I brought Gel along.  He loves going to Tractor Supply.  He loves going anywhere really.  I bought him a small stuffed squeak toy (he’s so spoiled) and when it came time to check out, I asked him to put his front feet up on the counter so the clerk could scan the toy.  Instead, Gel jumped completely up on top of the counter and proudly presented his toy for scanning.  Ding bat!

After Tractor Supply we went to Northern Tool.  I bought a pulley hoist with gambrel to use the next time I process a deer or other hoofed animal.  One of my wethers who is a high percentage Dorper is getting extremely heavy and slow.  He’ll need to be butchered sooner rather than later.

After that we went to Food Lion where I picked up an order of beef heart and then back to the man’s house with the chickens for a load of beef bones which the dogs are happily dining on as I write this.

I was supposed to go to Salisbury tomorrow to work with my herding instructor, but I don’t think the weather is going to cooperate.  That is unfortunate.  The good thing is, Monday is supposed to be beautiful.  I am driving to Georgia on Monday for my lesson with Kevin Evans.  Glad the weather is going to cooperate.  Glad my lesson is on Monday and not Tuesday when it is supposed to rain again.

Until later …
